How to find the right headlight or fog light bulb

  1. Choose your vehicle type, make, model and model year in the headlight bulb finder.
  2. Read the low beam, high beam and fog light results. Where multiple lighting options are listed, select the one installed on your vehicle.
  3. Compare the result with your owner's manual and the part number on the old bulb. Check the connector and the headlight type.
  4. Open a matching product and choose the correct bulb size. Check fitment notes, quantity, clearance and local road-use rules before buying.

What “Verified” means: the guide's reviewed fitment record has high confidence, based on an OEM reference or multiple independent bulb guides. Unverified or held entries are labeled and do not generate product matches. Coverage is still growing; a missing result does not mean a vehicle has no bulb.

Car headlight bulb size by year, make and model

Use the car bulb finder for passenger cars, SUVs and pickups. Check low and high beams separately: some headlights use one dual-beam bulb, while others use different bulbs for each beam. Factory halogen, HID and LED versions of the same model may use different parts.

Truck and semi-truck headlight bulb guide

Select commercial and heavy trucks for makes such as Freightliner, Peterbilt, Kenworth, Volvo, Mack, International, Hino and Western Star. Verify the installed housing and connector, especially on trucks with aftermarket headlights. Pickups are listed under cars, SUVs and pickups.

Example: the guide lists 9006 low beam and 9005 high beam for the 1996 Freightliner Columbia with original-style halogen headlights. Straight-base XS variants and replacement housings need a separate connector check.

Motorcycle headlight bulb finder

Choose motorcycles to look up a bike's headlight bulb size. Confirm whether your bike has a replaceable bulb, a complete sealed-beam lamp or an integrated LED assembly. Match the beam function, connector and required lamp quantity; a motorcycle may need a single lamp rather than a car set.

Headlight bulb size chart: common codes

A bulb “size” is a bulb type or base code, not just its dimensions. The chart identifies common names; it does not assign a bulb to a vehicle. Always use the exact application result and installed-bulb marking.

Common headlight and fog bulb code references
Bulb codeReference nameWhat to check
9003 / HB2 / H4Dual-beam bulb familyConfirm the specified replacement, beam function and rating.
9004 / HB1Dual-beam bulbNot interchangeable with 9007 just because the base looks similar.
9007 / HB5Dual-beam bulbMatch the original code and connector.
9008 / H13Dual-beam bulbOne bulb supplies low and high beam where specified.
9005 / HB3Single-beam bulbCheck the application; 9005XS / HB3A is a straight-base variant.
9006 / HB4Single-beam bulbCheck the application; 9006XS / HB4A is a straight-base variant.
9012 / HIR2Single-beam bulbDo not assume it is interchangeable with 9006.
H1, H3, H7Separate single-beam bulb typesThese are different types, not interchangeable aliases.
H8, H9, H11, H16Separate application codesSimilar-looking bases do not establish interchangeability. Match the exact code and rating.
H10 / 9145Fog-light bulb referenceConfirm the exact lamp application and rating.
D1S, D2S, D3S, D4SSeparate HID xenon typesMatch the entire code, including the letter suffix. Do not substitute across D-series types.

Sealed-beam headlight sizes and part numbers

A traditional sealed beam is replaced as a complete lamp, not as a loose bulb. Size names group the lamp shape; part numbers in a group can have different beam functions or wiring. Check your existing lamp number, mounting, connector and low/high-beam function before choosing a replacement.

Four common sealed-beam lamp sizes
Lamp sizePart-number familyShop the size
4x6 inch rectangularH4651, H4652, H4656, H4666, H65454x6 headlights
7x6 / 5x7 inch rectangularH60547x6 headlights
7 inch roundH6024, H60147 inch round headlights
5.75 inch roundH5001, H5006, 4000, 40015.75 inch round headlights

H6014 is a 7 inch round lamp, not a 7x6 rectangular lamp. H5001 and H5006 belong to the 5.75 inch round family; matching size alone does not make their beam functions identical.

Shop by bulb and lighting type

Choose a replacement suitable for your lamp and electrical system. A bulb-code match does not establish legal road use or correct beam performance. Factory integrated LED lamps do not take a conventional conversion bulb.

Headlight bulb finder FAQs

What size headlight bulb do I need?

Choose your vehicle's make, model, year and lighting option in the finder, then confirm the result against the owner's manual and the code printed on the existing bulb. Factory halogen, HID and LED headlights can differ on the same model.

How do I find my fog light bulb size?

Read the separate fog-light result for your vehicle. Do not assume fog lights use the same bulb as low or high beams. If the guide has no fog record, check your manual or the installed bulb; a missing entry does not prove fog lights are absent.

Are low beam and high beam bulbs the same?

Sometimes. A dual-beam bulb such as H4/9003 or H13/9008 supplies both functions where specified. Other headlights use separate low- and high-beam bulbs. Check each position in the vehicle result.

Are H11, H9, H8 and H16 interchangeable?

Do not assume they are. Similar-looking bulbs can differ in base keying, electrical rating and intended application. Use the exact code and rating specified for your lamp rather than treating these codes as universal substitutes.

Can I replace a factory LED headlight with an LED bulb kit?

Not when the factory lamp is an integrated LED assembly. It has no conventional replaceable headlight bulb. Follow the manufacturer's repair procedure for the assembly or its serviceable components; do not buy a halogen-socket conversion bulb for it.

What do Verified and Unverified mean?

Verified means the reviewed fitment record is high confidence, supported by an OEM reference or multiple independent bulb guides. Unverified or held records need an installed-bulb or manual check and do not generate product matches.

Does this bulb finder include motorcycles and semi trucks?

Yes, where records are available. Choose motorcycles for bike models, or commercial and heavy trucks for semi and work-truck models. Passenger cars, SUVs and pickups have their own selector category. Coverage is not complete worldwide.

What are the common sealed-beam headlight sizes?

The guide groups common lamps as 4x6 rectangular, 7x6/5x7 rectangular, 7 inch round and 5.75 inch round. Confirm the exact part number, beam function, connector and mounting. A size group is not a promise that every lamp in it is interchangeable.

Are H5001 and H5006 both 5.75 inch round headlights?

Yes. H5001 and H5006 belong to the 5.75 inch round sealed-beam family. Their beam functions can differ, so match the existing lamp number and wiring. A 7 inch round lamp such as H6024 or H6014 is a different size.

Does a matching bulb size guarantee an LED or HID kit will fit?

No. A socket match does not establish housing clearance, beam performance, electrical compatibility or legal road use. Check the product's fitment notes and size variant, the installed headlight and applicable rules before ordering.

Why does my vehicle show more than one bulb option?

A model may have different trims or factory headlight systems. Choose the lighting option installed on your vehicle before viewing product matches. If you cannot identify it, inspect the old bulb and consult the owner's manual or GENSSI.

What if my vehicle or bulb size is missing?

Do not guess from a neighboring year or similar model. Check the owner's manual, the part number on the installed bulb or a manufacturer parts reference. Contact GENSSI with the year, make, model and headlight type before ordering.

Fitment confidence and coverage

Verified sizes are confirmed by OEM references or multiple independent bulb guides. Sizes marked Unverified still need a second confirmation, so check your existing bulb before ordering.

Coverage includes cars, SUVs, pickups, commercial trucks and motorcycles where records are available. It is not complete worldwide coverage. Model names, market specifications, trims and aftermarket parts can differ. For a missing or uncertain result, check your owner's manual and existing bulb, or contact GENSSI before ordering.
