Installation (2006-2010 Jeep Commander)

Tools: trim/push-pin tool, 10 mm socket and ratchet, Phillips screwdriver, spare push pins and fascia clips.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the top cover over the headlight: lift at the two finger holes and slide it rearward.
  3. Pull the 6 push pins across the top of the grille, tip the grille forward and lift it out.
  4. Remove the front fascia: the 4 pins and center screw under the grille, the wheel-well rivets and the fascia-to-fender clips, the corner screws, and the 2 lower screws. Unplug the fog lights and pull the fascia forward.
  5. If working on the intake side, unsnap the air intake tube.
  6. Remove the 3 screws on the lamp brackets and the push pin on the upper outboard bracket.
  7. Pull the lamp forward and disconnect the harness (slide out the red lock, press the tab).
  8. Move the 9005, 9006 and 3157 bulbs over, plug in, and install the new lamp.
  9. Test lights, refit the fascia (replace broken pins/clips) and grille, then aim the beams.

Steps based on the 2007 Jeep Commander XK factory service manual and JeepCommander.com forum write-ups.

FAQ

Why do I need spare push pins?
Commander owners report that the wheel-well rivets and fascia clips often break on removal. Have a push-pin assortment ready before you start.

Do I have to take the front fascia off?
Yes. Per the factory manual, the grille and front fascia come off first; then each lamp is held by 3 screws and 1 push pin.

What bulb sizes do these use?
High beam 9005, low beam 9006, turn signal 3157 (bulbs NOT included).

Can I put LED bulbs in these?
Yes. These are halogen housings, so 9005/9006 LED conversion kits fit. Use a quality kit with a CANbus decoder if you see flicker or a bulb-out warning, and re-aim the beams after install.
