Installation — 2015-2022 Chevy Colorado
Tools: Torx T15 driver, plastic trim tool, towel. About 10-15 minutes per side.
- Park, turn the ignition and lights off, and lower the tailgate.
- On the inner edge of the tail light (exposed with the tailgate down) remove the two Torx T15 screws.
- Pull the lamp straight rearward to release the two pegs from the bed-corner grommets. If tight, gently pry along the outer front edge with a plastic tool — never metal against paint.
- Rest the lamp on a towel on the bumper. Squeeze the lock and unplug the harness connector.
- Twist out the two 7443 brake/turn sockets and the center 921 reverse socket (1/4 turn counterclockwise) and move the bulbs to the new housing, or install new bulbs.
- Plug the harness into the new lamp, line up the pegs with the grommets, and press it home.
- Reinstall the two T15 screws snug — do not over-tighten into the plastic.
- Test tail, brake, both turn signals and reverse before closing the tailgate. Repeat on the other side.
FAQ
What bulbs do 2015-2022 Colorado tail lights use?
Each lamp uses two 7443 (W21/5W) dual-filament bulbs for brake / tail / rear turn and one 921 (W16W) bulb for reverse. Bulbs are not included with this pair — reuse your factory bulbs or upgrade to LED.
Do I need tools to swap Colorado tail lights?
Only a Torx T15 driver and a plastic trim tool. With the tailgate lowered, two T15 screws on the inner edge hold each lamp; two pegs on the back press into grommets in the bed corner.
Will LED bulbs hyperflash in these housings?
The housings accept 7443 and 921 LED bulbs. Some LED turn-signal bulbs can cause fast flashing or a bulb-out message on the Colorado — choose CAN-bus/error-free 7443 LEDs or add load resistors.
Why do Colorado tail lights get moisture inside?
Cracked lenses and aged seals let water in through the car wash and rain. Replacing the full assembly fixes it; these housings are sealed against dust and moisture.
