Installation (2004-2005 Toyota RAV4)
Tools: 10 mm socket and ratchet, Phillips screwdriver, flat trim tool, pliers, masking tape.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the grille: 2 large screws at the outer corners, 3 small screws near the hood latch, then squeeze the 3 lower clips and pull it out.
- Remove the grille brace/upper panel (screws and plastic clips) and release its side clips from the fenders — tape the fender edges first.
- Remove the bumper cover: the bolt in each wheel well (one hides behind the liner), the screws at the lower edges, and the 4–6 bolts under the front lip.
- Pull the bumper cover forward and set it aside.
- Remove the 3 headlight fasteners (2 on top, 1 on the fender side), release the tab, and pull the lamp out.
- Unplug the H4 connector and twist out the 7440 turn signal socket. Move the bulbs to the new lamp.
- Install the new lamp, reconnect, and test before refitting the bumper, brace and grille. Aim the beams.
Steps based on the Toyota RAV4 repair manual (LI-93) and RAV4World owner write-ups.
FAQ
Can I change the headlights without removing the bumper?
RAV4World owners say no — they tried tilting the lamps out and could not. The bumper cover and grille brace have to come off for the lamp to clear.
Will these fit a 2003 RAV4?
No. The 2004-2005 facelift lamp has a different shape and amber corner. This pair is for 2004-2005 only.
What bulb sizes do these use?
Headlight (low/high) H4, turn signal 7440 (bulbs NOT included).
Can I put LED bulbs in these?
Yes. These are halogen housings, so H4 LED conversion kits fit. Use a quality kit with a CANbus decoder if you see flicker or a bulb-out warning, and re-aim the beams after install.
